For our first rally we wanted to pay homage to the great Ugo Sivocci. Father Quadrifoglio. Many will not know who this man is or how much he’s impacted Alfa Romeo, so let us tell you a bit about him. Ugo Sivocci was a driver for Alfa Romeo from 1920-1923. Ugo drove in a three-man works team along side some honorable names in the automotive industry such as Giulio Masetti and Enzo Ferrari. In 1923 Ugo had a belief that if he painted a green cloverleaf on the right hand of his Alfa Romeo RL it would bring him luck in his races and that’s exactly what it did. That same year Ugo went on to win a numerous amount of races including first place in the Targa Florio. In september of 1923 Ugo Sivocci was killed testing out Giuseppe Merosi’s newly designed Alfa Romeo P1 at Monza. Alfa Romeo withdrew from the race, stopped production and no Italian racing car wore the number 17 again. Ugo had pained the Quadrifoglio leaf on that vehicle which moved Alfa to keep the tradition and mark their high performance vehicles with it creating the Quadrifoglio line.
